The Thirteenth Tuesday We Talk About the Perfect Day
People often think the perfect day should be something extravagant and fancy. Instead, Morrie only wants an average, typical day. Why? What kind of day would you want if placed in Morrie's shoes?
The perfect day doesn't have to be extraordinary; it can be something as simple as laying in a field with the one you love and talking about random topics just to hear their voice. The perfect day isn't as extravagant as everyone makes it seem to be. If I wanted to have the perfect day I would simply sit on a pool deck, at midnight, with the person I love, staring at the stars, just enjoying being with that person at the moment.
The perfect day to me, has been brought to my thoughts often. Sometimes I thought it would be a day in which the sun shines upon me, the warmth on my skin, and my friends at my side. Or another time, I thought it would be a day in which my father and mother and I spent the day together, reminiscing on happy memories. My perfect day would not be fancy or brilliantly perfect. All that I would want on that day, is to spend time with the people I love.
The perfect day to me, has come to my mind multiple times. It would just have to be a day that has no school, the sun is out, and friends are wanting to hang out. The perfect day really wouldn't be perfect since there is no such thing, but in today's world perfection is always a must. So for me it would just be a normal weekend. The only thing is, that for the perfect day I would just want to spend it with friends and family.
The perfect day would be something very simple. I would do what I love to do. Maybe, I would sit in the morning, drink some hot chocolate, and maybe write a little. Then, I would enjoy some breakfast with my family, laugh with them, argue even. I would go out for a walk with friends I love and just fool around like we usually do. Maybe we would go down to McDonalds for a quick bite for lunch. Then, I would go home and, if it was nice, I would go for a float in the pool with the people I love, maybe try to dunk each other as well. I would eat a normal dinner, nothing different than I'm used to. Maybe it would be just chicken fingers and French fries. I would sit and talk to everyone for a while, watch a movie possibly, before just going to bed. That would be a perfect day for me.
Choosing the perfect day for me would be a hard choice. There are too many things that can make my day. Just being able to relax would be good enough for me. Really a day with no school, with nice if not great weather, that you can sit around with the windows open, and relax, or watch an action movie would be great. Who doesn't love to come home from a tiring day of school, and be able to sprawl out on their bed and take a nap. That is what my perfect day would consist of.
On the thirteenth Tuesday, Morrie and Mitch talk about the perfect day. When people think about what would make the perfect day, they usually think about doing a lot of extravagant activities. The truth is, all you really need to have "the perfect day" is a simple day with the people you care about the most. My idea of the perfect day is difficult for me to conjure up because there is no such thing as perfect; there is always something better. The best possible day I could ever have would be to spend time with family members I have lost and my best friends. I would like to see things that I otherwise would never see and pay attention to things I usually don't pay attention to. Every day should be treated as "the perfect day" because you never know which day will be your last; life is precious,
Morrie and Mitch talk about the perfect day on the thirteenth Tuesday. The perfect day doesn't have to be anything really extravagant. A lot of people will say all of these crazy activities that they would want to do, but in all honesty i would prefer a simple day over that. Perfection isn't a real thing, but i would want my last day to be almost perfect. I would like it to be winter, I've come to love the cold. I would probably spend time with my close family and friends by the fireplace. We could maybe go outside and play in the snow. Build a snowman one last time. I would pay attention more to the little details in life, and enjoy every living second of that day. My perfect day would end where it started. At my home by the fire place. I would reminisce about all of the good times i had in life, and would contemplate what i could have done better. I would definitely choose a simple day over an extravagant one.
A PERFECT day, huh? Well, this topic might have some issues. Everyone's opinions are going to differ. That's why they're called opinions. Anyway, for me, the perfect day happens once a year for me. In fact, it happened yesterday, Saturday, the thirtieth of November. My mother's side of the family has a very unique tradition. My aunt and uncle will invite everyone over to their house in Pittsburgh. We start off the evening different every year. We might go to the Benedum Center to watch a holiday show, the annual festival in PNC Plaza, or go for a sleigh ride around the city. This year, we saw the Broadway Across America production "The Elf." No matter what we do, it's always fun. After the evening-opener, we all meet at a restaraunt. We usually rent out an upper, separate floor for some family privacy. That's when the fun really begins. We laugh, eat, sing carols, and share stories about our lives. I don't care about presents and such during this time of year. Sure, they are nice, but not important. Personally, that single day when all of my family sets aside everything for each other is awesome. It's a family tradition that is just so fun. We might get stares from people in restaurants when we uproariously sing 'The Twelve Days of Christmas,' but who cares? It's family and we're having a good time. Sometimes, the simplest traditions and days are the best. Lots of people find the best day to be when they receive the best gift or wish of their life. Not for me.
There really is no such thing as a perfect day. The thing is, we should all try to make every day perfect because absolutely no one knows when their end is. It could be sixty seven years from now... Or maybe it is tomorrow. If it was my last day to live I wouldn't go do anything fancy. I would much rather have a day to be with all the people I love. I know that it can't be actually perfect but it would be as close as it gets.
The perfect day. I believe that the perfect day doesn't exist. As long as we keep our heads up, our attitudes positive, and our goals high, everyday could be just as close to perfect as the next, because each day that passes, you're accomplishing more and more. You might not realize it, but as far away as perfection seems, you can never stop trying. But, figuratively speaking, if you wake up and tell yourself, "This day is going to be perfect," you can do anything in your power to make it so. Maybe get together with the family members that you haven't seen in a while, apologize for that one idiotic thing you did three years ago, and just laugh about life. That, is pretty close to a perfect day to me.
I agree with Kayla that there is no such thing as a perfect day. Mainly because you can have what seems to be a "perfect day" but then there's always the chance that tomorrow will be 10x better. I understand Morrie and why he would only want a normal day because a normal day is something he hasn't had in months. For me, I see a "perfect day" as fishing at the lake with my best friend. I don't see him very often but simply seeing each other makes us happy.
I feel that the perfect day really can exist, just not in the way that you expected it to. My perfect day would be to just be with my family and friends, eating, talking, and laughing. Many people think that the perfect say has to be extravagant with going to a different country or meeting a famous celebrity. It doesn't have to be that way. Perfection is something we all strive for. We can't always achieve it, but somehow perfection happens in the simplest of ways.
As I am writing this, I am sitting on my bed in sweatpants watching Modern Family with a jar of Nutella, a pack of Oreos, and a fully charged phone. Before reading this chapter, I would have considered this a perfect day, and dang flabbit it is still pretty close (minus the fact that I have no friends [if you are reading this, please text me]). But since I read this chapter, I see Morrie’s point of view on his ideal day. A perfect day is just another day you wake up healthy! Like Morrie describes his perfect day on pages 175-176, it doesn’t have to be extraordinary. Now, I view almost every day a perfect day because I am healthy and am still able to do the things I love.
As Mitch asked Morrie what would he do if he had one perfectly healthy day, I thought Morrie would have said something extravagant. Apparently so did Mitch. After Morrie described his day, I thought it was just a normal day for me, and that is exactly what it was... a normal day. I am healthy, I can walk, I can eat without any help, I can swim, and I can dance, but Morrie can't. All Morrie wants is a regular day to do what he did before he had this terrible disease. This really shows how much ALS affected Morrie on a mental level. We all should be grateful for the simplest things, such as being healthy. I love what Hunter said about viewing almost everyday a perfect day because you are healthy and still able to do the things you love.
A perfect day for me would be a day when nothing bad happens. With so much tragedy in the world it's hard to imagine. But let's not think on a global level. A perfect day would be a day where I don't think about the bad things I've experienced, or the people who've hurt me, or the mistakes I've made, or worried about the future. A perfect day for me wouldn't really require doing anything. My perfect day would just be as simple as a day that's 100% happy and positive. But we should strive for the perfect day everyday. We should work to make everything go well for us and others and try not to focus too much on the bad things.
Mitch asks Morrie, "What if you had one day perfectly healthy, what would you do?" Morrie`s response is very simple. His idea of a perfect day isn`t full of fancy, expensive things. The perfect day for Morrie is full of simple pleasures, talking to friends, taking a walk and looking at nature, and eating some of his favorite foods. Most of our ideas of a perfect day would be extravagant. We need to learn how to take notice and appreciate the simpler pleasures. I agree with Morrie, my idea of a perfect day would include spending time with my friends and then just relaxing, no fighting or drama, just peace. Life isn`t all about materials, there is so much more to it than that.
This one was pretty sad. In this final Tuesday, Morrie tells Mitch that he was never hoping to be cured. He knows that he knows that he can never ever return to the way he was. He has excepted his defeat gracefully and peacefully. He is not embarrassed about it either because he knows he was losing a battle he knew he couldn't win. That's what makes it sad though. Its like falling from a building. You know that no matter what, you wont survive and no one can save you. Mitch then asks Morrie what Morrie would do if he was healthy again. He replies by saying that he would live life normally. He says that he feels like a completely different person. He has learned so much in the past months. He says that he realized that every normal thing is perfect, so a normal things are truly what make up a perfect day. Morrie truly realizes the fact that you must love what you have because you never know when you might lose it all.
The perfect day for someone who has been sick may be a normal day to someone who is perfectly fine. It is the little things that people take for granted every day that can be something very cherished to someone underprivileged. I realized that every day things can become cherished when they are taken away. It is then and only then that people understand how important these every day things can be. In conclusion, I will attempt to cherish and respect the little things in life that I normally would take for granted.
On The Thirteenth Tuesday, Morrie and Mitch talk about the perfect day. Some people in the world already had what they think was that perfect day, but like most of us we are still waiting for that perfect day. What I think the perfect day is, is when your day goes exactly how you wanted it and maybe even a little better. Whenever Mitch asked Morrie what he would do if he "magically" got healthy again, Morrie explains to Mitch what he would dis disappointed in a way, because he thought Morrie's perfect day wouldn't be average. Whenever I read this, I also thought Morrie's day was going to be a lot more adventurous.
The overall idea of "The Perfect Day" for Morrie was simple. Morri, for more than six months, has been sick. He has lost total feeling of his legs, he cannot sing or dance, he can't raise his arms, and he can't wipe his own a$$. The simplicity of Morrie's perfect day shows how much everyone takes for granted. Morrie, with his withered legs and arms, tells Mitch of this perfect day that he has envisioned. Morrie tells Mitch that all he would want is a day to do what he always did. A day to dance, to spend time with friends, to swim, to sleep, to enjoy the activities of everyday life that are taken for granted. The disease has almost swallowed Morrie whole. I felt sympathy fro Morrie in this chapter because of all had had been through. I also felt like he was brave ad courageous because of all he had overcome. All Morrie wanted was a simple day, doing simple things, living his simple life in the company of others.
On the thirteenth Tuesday Morrie and Mitch talk about the perfect day. Usually if you ask anyone what the perfect day would be for them, they would come up with some extravagant agenda. This day would be filled with doing things that have always wanted to do, but never gotten the chance. Morrie had a completely different idea of what the perfect day would be. This disease took away his ability to do the things he did on a normal basis and some of the things he really enjoyed in life. Morrie's perfect day consisted of doing the things that he no longer could do that he loved. He said that he would do things like go swimming, go to lunch with a friend and talk to them about their family and their issues, go for a walk in a garden, eat dinner at a resturant with good pasta and duck, dance, and have a wonderful night of sleep. All of these were things that Morrie loved, but could no longer do because of his ALS. His perfect day was doing the things that he loved most in life. I agree with Morrie that being able to do all of the things that you love in life would be the perfect day.
Let me first start off by saying that I cracked up at Hunter's perfect day. But I agree with what he said. Everyday that we wake up is the perfect day because we know we have one more day to do what we love to do no matter what it is. At first I thought the perfect day was being able I do what you wan wih no limitations or worries. I've thought about the perfect day before but I never really decided on one. After reading this chapter I believe that every day we are allowed to wake up and live is perfect.
The thirteenth Tuesday is spent talking about the perfect day. Mitch asks Morrie what would he do if he had twenty-four hours as a healthy man. Morrie describes a very ordinary day. That is the entire point, as Mitch expresses. In life, everyone tries to have all the elegant things and live like a king. And yes, that is very nice and quite enjoyable. But those things cannot take over your life. In life, it's the little things that count. You have to enjoy the little things as well. It's waking up every morning, it's being able to laugh and have good times with friends and family, it's being able to enjoy a nice meal. Morrie describes it as going to the park and watching the plants and looking at the colors and then having a lunch with the friends. True, the elegant life style seems wonderful, but it's the little things that truly matter and it's the little things that make us truly happy.
Morrie's idea of a perfect day is pretty self-explanatory. Morrie wants an average, typical day. Just relaxing and enjoying the silence will be an amazing perfect day. My "perfect day" is having the things I love all in one day. It would be with my entire family, extended and immediate, friends, and since I love food, we would go to my favorite restaurant and sing songs that had the most impact on us. We would go to the movies and watch a movie that we have agreed on. No arguments for the whole day, No distractions, just me and those who I love with all my heart.
Morrie's perfect day was so average but expected from a wise and respected man. He just said he wants to eat, exercise, talk, sit, dance, and sleep. Something that is normal for a lot of people to do almost every day. It just goes to show how we take advantage of our daily lives when to another man, it's something he dreams about and says it would be his perfect day. I think that is great of Morrie! He wasn't being too inordinate with his day. He just wanted his past life back and that is not how most people would have answered the queastion, "What is your idea of the perfect day?"
the perfect day to you is to much. The perfect day really doesn't have to be all that. It could be as simple as being great full that you are alive and have a family because some people don't. Morrie is having perfect days because he is alive. we are expecting to much for the perfect day and just being able to go through the day unharmed is a perfect day. I agree with Morrie because he is just lucky to live one more day which makes everyday for him perfect
The thirteenth Tuesday taught me of how everyone misunderstands the average day. Morrie's average day included a large breakfast, a walk through the park, time with friends and family, and other everyday things. What this taught me is the perfect day is every day you live being loved and appreciated. Morrie's ideas in this chapter really got to me and made me think of how great my life really is with everything I have. I feel this part of the story was to make me grateful for what I already have. Morrie taught me to live a perfect life is to live the life I already have because nothing has to be any better than what it already is.
The perfect day doesn't have to be extraordinary; it can be something as simple as laying in a field with the one you love and talking about random topics just to hear their voice. The perfect day isn't as extravagant as everyone makes it seem to be. ReplyDeleteThe thirteenth Tuesday is spent talking about the perfect day.
ReplyDeleteMorrie's idea of a perfect day is pretty self-explanatory.
ReplyDeleteMorrie's perfect day was so average but expected from a wise and respected man.
ReplyDeletethe perfect day to you is to much.
ReplyDeleteThe thirteenth Tuesday taught me of how everyone misunderstands the average day.
